A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been signed between Local 15 and NRG over the closure of two coal fired power plants this June of 2022. The plants located in Waukegan, Illinois and Romeoville, Illinois represent over 1,200 MWs of power shutting down in northern Illinois this year. Over 70 Local 15 members will be directly impacted by these plant closures.
The MOA was rolled out to the affected stations the week of February 21st with Will Co. being on Thursday the 24th and Waukegan being held on that Friday the 25th. President Terry McGoldrick, Vice President Bill Phillips and Business Representative Dave Grooms were in attendance to discuss the terms of the MOA and answer questions.
The rollouts consisted of going over the MOA and what options our members would have. The options will be based on seniority and range from selecting a Voluntary Severance at one of the staffing reduction dates, bumping into other NRG plants, involuntary severance per the CBA or maintaining the plant well after the shutdown has occurred.
