COVID Relief Bill Reduces Premiums for Affordable Care Act Participants

The American Rescue Act of 2021 was signed into law March 11, 2021. The most highly publicized provision of the law was the economic $1400 stimulus, based on eligibility.

Another provision of the law is a potential reduction of medical premiums for those that purchase their health insurance under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). This does not affect those who are active or retired and are receiving their health coverage under employer based plans.

It does affect some IBEW 15 retirees who were not offered or are not eligible to receive health care from their previous employers; and family members and friends enrolled in the ACA. There are substantial premium reductions based income vs the amount paid for health care under the ACA. This special enrollment period for this benefit extends through May 15, 2021.
