Be Aware, Be Heard, Be Involved
IBEW Local 15 members joined ComEd to establish a Safety Steering Team (SST) to improve safety practices throughout the company in key areas. The SST works closely with another Local 15 supported group, The Continuous Improvement teams (CITs) to create positive and sustainable change in the workplace. CITs focus on safety observations, safety huddles, close calls and good catches, and rewards and recognition. SST members are passionate about the safety journey and dedicated to achieving zero serious injuries or fatalities. CITs improve communication between supervisors and workers, design training for Front Line Supervisors, and promote safety awareness through close calls and good catches. The latest Continuous Improvement Team, #4, focuses on positive recognition and employee engagement. We encourage employees to submit and share Close Calls or Good Catches and recognize others for safe behaviors. South Region Physical Business Rep, Mike Keating has been apart of SST since 2017, and has played an intricate roll in helping SST get to where it is today. “Our members must be involved with all aspects of safety, no one knows the culture better than the Local 15 members doing the work.” - Mike Keating
