In mid-August, NRG Energy informed IBEW 15 of its plans to reduce their workforce by twenty-two employees. President McGoldrick, Vice-President Bill Phillips and Business Representative Dave Grooms have been meeting with the company to discus the effects of this reduction in force. A voluntary severance plan has been the first topic to work through.
Currently, two-hundred and two members of IBEW 15 work at NRG’s four fossil generation plants in Illinois; Waukegan, Powerton, Joliet and Will County. Those stations and Fisk and Crawford were built by Commonwealth Edison and purchased by Midwest Generation in 1999. NRG bought the stations from the bankrupt Midwest in 2014. We will continue to update the Stewards and our members who work at these generating stations as the situation unfolds.
