ComEd recently contacted IBEW 15 Business Representatives Michael Freeman and Fabian Vela about establishing a Safety Council for the General Service Representative work group in New Business.
We have had a few meetings to discuss the structure and the benefits of promoting a safe work environment. A Safety Council structure developed between the Company and IBEW 15 currently exists and we expressed it should be followed. The Council would have representatives from each office and would have leadership positions of Chairman, Co-Chair and Recording Secretary which would be filled by Bargaining Unit employees. The Residential Design GSRs will be included in the new council.
This group has never had a sole dedicated safety council and was sporadically involved in other councils. Considering that the GSR’s are unique in the fact that they face potential safety issues not only in the office but also in the field this will help communicate safety concerns more readily.
