Commercial Physical

 Fleet

Fleet Stewards will be in the Local 15 office on March 23rd to discuss some of the more pressing issues.

  Topics will include:

  • Engine rebuild and  O&C work

  • Warranty work

  • Contracting

  • Hybrid vehicles

Thanks to the Stewards who are lending their expertise on the topics in an effort to resolve these concerns.

AMI

Looking back at the AMI install project we can all consider it a success. Although the project is far from over, the first wave of residential meters have been installed and the brothers and sisters of Local 15 can be proud of their skill, craftsmanship, and dedication to get the job done right the first time. The Local took a proactive approach from the start and President Apple assigned Brian Loomis (Assistant Business Manager) as the person to lead in the efforts to secure this work for the members of Local 15. Brian along with Dave Wiggins (Southern Business Rep) and several Stewards from Field and Meter service were successful in securing the work and in the process created upgrading opportunities for several Meter Readers. A special thanks to Stewards Rick Johnson, Mark Stapinsky, Chuy Vallejos, Diana Tippman, and Mike Niedzela for their guidance and assistance.

While it can be described as a great start, the work is far from over. We will continue to work aggressively on behalf of Local 15 members. (Our Work Our People)

Underground Department Reorganization

The Local and Company continue to meet to discuss the concerns of both parties. Topics of discussion have been.

  • T.U.G (Transmission Underground Group)

  • Training

  • Underground and Overhead jurisdiction (Work practice)

  • Lead Splicing

  • Two Person Crews

Meetings are scheduled once a week for the foreseeable future. Attend your Local Unit meetings to hear the facts not the rumors.

OHT (Overhead Transmission Group)

Now that we have an agreement on OHT we are in the process of working with the Company to fill the positions including the newly created Crew Leader Lead title and Work Planner. These new titles are a big step in the right direction for both the Company and the Union. It is an opportunity for our members to showcase their talents and knowhow. We believe it will benefit the Company as well to have subject matter experts at every turn in the work process from planning to walk down to turning the wrench.

After the Planner and Lead positions are filled, the Crew Leaders and Overhead Electricians will be canvassed.

Highlights of the Package include:

  • Expanded work jurisdiction, O&C clarification.

  • Helicopter Patrols, with future discussions regarding expanded Helicopter duties such as drop off of material tools and personnel. Bird on a wire.

  • Crew Leader Lead title at 6% wage increase

  • Crew leader/Planner title

  • 1.5% additive for OHT participants

Meter Reading

We met with the Company on March 10th regarding the Bonus. We received some of the information requested to determine if the Company is implementing the Bonus System correctly. When we receive the requested material a meeting will be scheduled with Clerical members and Stewards from meter Reading. We hope to have this meeting scheduled by the end of March.

The Union Also presented the Company with options and opportunities for improvements in transportation for the Chicago Meter Readers. Terry Sheridan (Chicago Business Rep) presented the Company with a well thought out plan to resolve the lack of vehicles and transportation options for the Readers in the City which include more cars, car pooling, to name a few.  Let us all hope that the Company sees the err in their ways and resolves this issue once and for all.
